Healthcare Coding Certificate Program
The Healthcare Coding Certificate Program at Chemeketa prepares students for a rewarding career in the healthcare field. To enroll, prospective students should have a high school diploma or GED. Basic computer proficiency is essential, and a background check and drug screen will be conducted, as students will handle sensitive patient information. Additionally, some facilities may require updated vaccinations, so it's important to be aware of this requirement when applying to the program and or placement.
Working Conditions: Students will work in an office environment, requiring prolonged periods of sitting and manual dexterity for computer use. They should be able to view a terminal for extended durations and handle some lifting (up to 30 pounds), depending on whether they work on-site. Flexible hours are necessary.
Essential Functions:
- Answer phones courteously and direct calls appropriately.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong organizational, detail-oriented, phone, and computer skills.
- Effective communication abilities, including listening and writing and;
- Teamwork
Responsibilities Include:
- Managing private pay accounts and insurance claims.
- Answering patient inquiries and verifying insurance information.
- Participating in departmental meetings and mentoring new staff.

Criminal Background Check, Drug Screening, & Immunization
Accepted applicants will be required to pass a criminal background check. If a potential student does not pass the criminal background check, acceptance may be denied.
Criminal Background Checks will be ordered through Advanced Reporting upon acceptance into the program. Please review the disqualifying crimes list.
